Application / Employment Guidelines To be considered for job openings, you are required to complete Orange County's online application in its entirety. All qualifying information must appear on the application. Information from a resume or curriculum vitae (CV) will not be used to determine if job qualifications are met or accepted in lieu of an application (Instructions on How to Apply Online). If you claim Veterans' Preference, you will be required to provide eligibility documentation within 3 days of application submission. Explain fully and provide dates, if you have ever pleaded No Contest to, been convicted of a Felony or First Degree Misdemeanor. This information will be weighed with respect to time, circumstances, seriousness and the position you are applying for. Employment Tests and Assessments Some positions require that you have a passing typing or math test on file prior to the position closing. To sit for a test, you must have applied for a vacant position or have an active record. Test scores are valid for one year and you can retest every thirty days. Your most recent test score is used for consideration. Conditions of Employment If you are selected for hire, you will be asked to provide copies of required documents, diplomas, degrees, certifications and licenses. An education diploma or degree issued outside the United States or US territories must be evaluated for a determination of United States equivalency by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluations Services (NACES) or Association of International Credentials Evaluators (AICE), at your expense. Orange County Government is a Drug-Free and Tobacco-Free Workplace. All newly hired employees must satisfactory complete a pre-employment physical, drug screening and background investigation. Men who are required to register with the Selective Service System under the Military Selective Service Act, and who have received a conditional offer of employment must submit registration documentation (or an exception from registration) before the employment offer is finalized. Finally, new employees must sign up for direct deposit of County issued payroll checks by the first day of employment.
